Plantin-Moretus Hof van Liere Antwerp
Hof van Liere in Antwerp is one of the oldest patrician houses in the city and plays an important role in its academic past. The complex was built in the 16th century for the Van Liere family and has belonged to the University of Antwerp campus for centuries. The historic link with the Plantin-Moretus printing family remains tangible through several vaults in which rare prints from the early days of book printing are preserved. Today the site houses several university faculties and workshops for contemporary culture.
Accessibility at Hof van Liere is partial. The main entrance on Prinsstraat has been made barrier-free, and the central inner courtyard is reached via paved paths. An adapted toilet is located in the main building on the ground floor. Several exhibition spaces on the ground floor are accessible, but some historic vaults and stairs to the upper floors have not been adapted. The majority of the cultural programming, however, takes place on the ground floor.
The courtyard of Hof van Liere lies in the historic heart of Antwerp, with cobblestones in the surrounding streets. Reserved PRM parking spaces are located on Sint-Jacobsmarkt, 200 metres away. The underground Parking Grote Markt has adapted spaces and a lift. A visit combines very well with the Plantin-Moretus Museum on Vrijdagmarkt, which is also largely wheelchair-friendly.
