Reserve naturelle de Furfooz
The Reserve naturelle de Furfooz is one of the most spectacular small nature areas in the province of Namur. The reserve lies in a wide bend of the Lesse, surrounded by limestone cliffs typical of the southern Meuse basin. The area is rich in rare flora such as orchids and in archaeological remains, including ancient caves and the foundations of a Roman bath. Managed by the nature association Ardenne et Gaume, the area has been protected for more than a century.
Accessibility is limited by the terrain. The short loop walk from the visitor centre to the first viewpoints is partially navigable by wheelchair or rollator on solid semi-paved paths, but soon turns into steep and stony tracks that are no longer accessible on wheels. Anyone wanting a quiet visit to the visitor centre, the terrace and the first panorama can do so step-free. The full circuit of an hour and a half is suitable only for capable walkers.
At the visitor centre there is a small car park with one accessible space. The visitor centre has an accessible toilet and a step-free reception area. It is wise to phone ahead to check the current state of the paths, especially after rain. For a more accessible nature alternative nearby, the Domaine de Chevetogne or the Lac de Bambois are better suited.
