The Verbeke Foundation in Kemzeke is one of the most idiosyncratic art organisations in Belgium. On a twelve-hectare site laid out on a former container yard, artists exhibit assemblage art, bio-art and installation art. Monumental works by, among others, Panamarenko, Wim Delvoye and Koen Vanmechelen share the space with an experimental garden, pavilions made from reclaimed materials and tree houses.

The reception, the main hall and the large exhibition halls are barrier-free, with wide doorways and sufficient turning space around the artworks. Adapted toilets are provided at the reception. Outside, paved paths alternate with semi-paved lanes; the main route through the sculpture park is usable for wheelchair users, although some side paths can be rough or sandy. A few pavilions have a small threshold for which portable ramps are available on request.

The spacious car park is paved and offers several reserved spaces at the entrance. The cafeteria and the garden terrace are barrier-free. The Foundation is a full-day visit and combines perfectly with the accessible Singelberg castle estate or the historic centre of Sint-Niklaas. Bring waterproof wheelchair covers in changeable weather; the semi-paved paths are then a little less comfortable.
