Waasland Shopping Center in Sint-Niklaas is one of the largest covered shopping centres in Belgium, with more than 140 shops and places to eat. It opened in 1978 and, after several extensions, has remained entirely on one level, which makes it very suitable for visitors with reduced mobility. A pleasant mix of fashion, electronics, bookshops and restaurants draws many visitors every day.

The shopping centre is completely step-free. All shops can be reached on the level and the wide central corridors make manoeuvring easy. Adapted toilets are located in four sanitary blocks across the complex. Wheelchairs and electric scooters are available free of charge at the reception desk. Benches are placed throughout to allow for rest breaks.

A free car park with more than 3,000 spaces surrounds the shopping centre, with spacious reduced-mobility spaces at every entrance. De Lijn buses stop right in front of the building and have low-floor boarding. The area around the centre is level, so pedestrians and wheelchair users can also easily reach the nearby residential neighbourhoods.
