De Brielmeersen Provincial Domain Deinze
The De Brielmeersen Provincial Domain in Deinze is one of the most popular recreation areas in East Flanders. The sprawling park of around fifty hectares combines walking paths through woodland and meadow, a large central pond, an outdoor swimming pool, children's playgrounds and a mini-golf course. The domain was designed to suit all ages, from walkers and cyclists to families with young children and sports enthusiasts. The river Leie runs along the eastern edge and gives the place a quiet riverside atmosphere.
Accessibility is well thought out. The main paths through the domain are wide and paved in asphalt or solid concrete pavers, making them comfortable for a wheelchair, mobility scooter or rollator. Around the central pond runs a wheelchair-friendly walking loop of about a kilometre with several rest benches along the way. The outdoor pool has an adapted changing room and a ramp into the shallow basin. Several accessible toilets are spread across the domain, including at the main entrance, the pool and the cafeteria.
The spacious car park has clearly marked accessible spaces close to the main entrance. Entry is free for walkers; the pool has a separate fee. The cafeteria by the central pond is step-free and has a wheelchair-friendly terrace overlooking the water. The domain lends itself perfectly to a relaxed half-day on a flat and well-maintained route.
