Brasserie Appelmans
Brasserie Appelmans is a well-established fixture in Antwerp's restaurant scene, housed in an imposing historic building just steps from the Groenplaats. The interior blends art nouveau elements with a warm, contemporary feel: high ceilings, copper lamps, and comfortable banquettes invite you to linger over a long and relaxed meal. The menu is a tribute to Belgian cuisine — fresh mussels, beef stew with fries, Ghent-style waterzooi, and seasonal specials take centre stage, all complemented by an extensive selection of Belgian beers.
Accessibility at Brasserie Appelmans has been very well considered. The main entrance on the Appelmanstraat is completely step-free and wide enough for power wheelchairs. All tables on the ground floor are reachable via generous pathways between the seating groups. The restaurant has a spacious adapted toilet on the ground floor, fitted with grab rails and plenty of manoeuvring space. The serving staff are trained to assist wheelchair users discreetly and efficiently.
Brasserie Appelmans is a stone's throw from the Grote Markt and the Cathedral of Our Lady, in the historic heart of Antwerp. The surrounding area has some cobblestones, but the direct route along the Appelmanstraat is paved and level. Trams 3, 5, and 9 stop at the Groenplaats, less than two minutes' walk away. There is an adapted parking space directly in front of the restaurant, and the underground Parking Groenplaats has a lift and adapted spaces.
