Aalmoezenijezberg Brecht
The Aalmoezenijezberg in Brecht is a small but charming nature reserve in the Antwerp Kempen. The name refers to an old farm owned by the almoners who were based here in the past. Today it is a peaceful walking area with woods, fens and a few heathland spots. The area is popular with local walkers and nature lovers, and offers a brief escape from the busier life around Antwerp.
A walking loop of about two kilometres is fully paved and barrier-free. The path runs mostly over flat ground with a few gentle slopes. Benches with armrests are provided at several points. The loop passes close to a number of viewpoints over the fens and cuts through tall pine trees. For wheelchair users it makes a pleasant, easily navigable walk without obstacles. There is no public toilet on site; you will find accessible sanitary stops in the centre of Brecht.
The car park on the southern side is paved with reserved spaces and clear signage to the start of the walk. The area can be reached from the centre of Brecht in a few minutes by car. By public transport there is a bus stop at the edge of the reserve, with a paved footpath leading to the car park.
