♿ Wheelchair accessible

Visitor centre De Vroente is the gateway to the Kalmthout Heath Border Park, an extensive nature reserve with heathlands, pools, and pine forests on the border with the Netherlands. Inside the centre an interactive exhibition teaches you everything about the special biodiversity of the heath, the grazing by sheep, and the history of the landscape.

The visitor centre itself is fully wheelchair accessible: step-free entrance, adapted toilets, spacious exhibition area, and a reception desk at wheelchair height. From De Vroente a specially laid-out wheelchair-friendly walk departs with a paved loop of about 1 kilometre. The larger heath paths are sandy and less suitable for wheelchairs; stick to the indicated paved routes.

Disabled parking spaces are located close to the centre, and an adapted picnic table stands ready in the garden. The centre regularly organises activities such as guided walks and nature lessons, some of which are explicitly geared to wheelchair users. Access to the visitor centre and the nature reserve is free.
