♿ Wheelchair accessible

The Beguinage Ten Wijngaerde of Bruges, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998, is one of the city's most serene spots. Founded in 1245 as a community of beguines — religious women who lived independently — it is now one of the best-preserved beguinages in Belgium. The whitewashed cottages around a large grassy lawn under tall poplars create an atmosphere unique to the centre of Bruges.

Accessibility is partial but sufficient for those who want to visit the heart of the beguinage. The main entrance via the stone bridge over the canal waters is step-free. The inner garden is paved with a combination of historic cobblestones and gravel strips — for finely tuned wheelchairs, a companion can be helpful on the less even areas. The grass itself is less accessible for wheelchair users, but the paved paths around it are.

The museum section (a restored beguine house showing the daily life of a beguine) is accessible on the ground floor and has an accessible toilet. The chapel itself has a low threshold that can be crossed with assistance. Accessible parking is available in the public car park beneath 't Zand, on a flat paved route to the Beguinage — about a 10-minute walk. Combine with a walk along the nearby Minnewater Bruges for a complete, peaceful half-hour roll.

Reservation
Access to the **inner garden is free** and without reservation. For the **beguine house museum** (small wing) a ticket is required — ticket desk on site. The museum is **only accessible on the ground floor**.
Busy and quiet times
Busiest during summer weekends and from May to August. Weekday autumn mornings offer the most serene experience with snowdrops (February) or late summer blooms (September).
Things to note
The inner garden has historic cobblestones and gravel strips — for finely tuned wheelchairs or rollators, this may feel slightly uneven. The **church and houses** are not fully accessible — the church has a threshold of a few centimetres. Accessible toilet in the museum section.
