De Berlaarmolen Sint-Niklaas
The Berlaarmolen in Sint-Niklaas is a historic post mill, a protected heritage site that serves as a small museum location about the milling history of the Waasland. The surrounding site features information panels about how mills work, picnic spots and a quiet park landscape. On set mill days, volunteers operate the mill and visitors can experience the milling process firsthand.
Accessibility is partial. The surroundings and the terrace around the mill are paved and flat, allowing wheelchair users to move around easily. The mill building itself, due to its post mill structure, is not wheelchair accessible: entry is via a steep stair. An information panel outside and an audio guide give visitors with reduced mobility a full account of how the mill works and its history.
A free car park with disabled parking spaces lies along the access road, just a few metres from the paved square by the mill. Accessible toilets are limited and available at nearby cafes and restaurants. The Berlaarmolen makes a pleasant stopover during a cycling or walking trip through the Waasland.
