The Flemish Nature Reserve De Westhoek in De Panne is the largest dune area in Belgium and borders directly on the French Dunes du Perroquet. With more than three hundred hectares of unspoilt nature, the reserve offers a fascinating palette of dune slacks, parabolic dunes, scrub and drift dunes. Management by Natuur en Bos ensures that the rare fauna and flora, including the natterjack toad and the dune pansy, are preserved. Walkers enjoy breathtaking views over the North Sea and the vast dune ridge stretching to the French border.

Accessibility is partial. From the main entrance, several semi-paved paths have been laid out that are passable for wheelchair users in dry weather. The most recommended route is the short walk from Schuilhavenlaan to the Botte de Cabour viewpoint, with mostly flat ground. Deeper paths through the dunes consist mainly of loose sand and are difficult to navigate. An adapted toilet is available to a limited extent at the visitor centre at the entrance.

A spacious car park with disabled parking spaces is located on Schuilhavenlaan in De Panne. The reserve is reachable by Coast Tram (stop De Panne Esplanade) and bus, with a few minutes' walk to the entrance. Plan your visit on a dry day if possible, as the semi-paved paths become harder to navigate when wet. Combine the visit with the adjacent coastal promenade of De Panne.
