Fort Napoleon is a well-preserved Napoleonic fort dating from 1811, situated in the sand dunes of Ostend on the Belgian coast. The fort was built on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte as part of the coastal defences against the British Empire. After a thorough restoration, the fort now houses exhibitions on coastal history, the Atlantic Wall and the maritime heritage of the Belgian coast. The fort offers a compelling combination of military architecture and contemporary museum presentation.

The ground floor and basement of the fort are accessible to wheelchair users via a lift. The exhibition spaces on these levels are step-free and easy to navigate. Please note: the roof and caponiers (projecting defensive structures) are not accessible by wheelchair due to stairs and narrow passages. Adapted toilets are available and PMR parking spaces can be found in the immediate vicinity of the fort.

Fort Napoleon is located at the eastern end of the Ostend seafront promenade, near the marina. The fort can be reached via a paved path from the promenade. From Ostend city centre, you can get there by the coastal tram or by car via the Halve Maan. A visit to the fort combines perfectly with a stroll along the Ostend seafront promenade, which is fully wheelchair accessible.
