Centre Touristique de la Laine et de la Mode Verviers
The Centre Touristique de la Laine et de la Mode is housed in a former wool spinning mill along the Vesdre in Verviers and tells the story of the city as the historic capital of the wool industry. The interactive scenography guides visitors through every step from the raw fleece to the finished piece of cloth. The associated modern section presents contemporary fashion, design and materials. The complex is part of the broader Aqualaine project, which also highlights the water theme of the Vesdre valley.
The museum has been laid out with attention to accessibility. Lifts serve all floors, the circulation areas are wide and the exhibitions feature audiovisual and tactile elements at wheelchair height. The main entrance on Rue de la Chapelle is step-free and the ticket counter is lowered. Accessible toilets are available on multiple levels. The 2021 floods hit the building hard, but the reopened sections are once again fully accessible.
Accessible parking spaces are located on the side of the building and near Place du Marche. Verviers-Central station is a ten-minute drive or short taxi ride away, and bus lines stop nearby. A combined visit with the Musee des Beaux-Arts or the Grand Theatre de Verviers is easy thanks to the redesigned, wheelchair-friendly city centre.
