Meir Antwerp
The Meir is the main shopping street of Antwerp and one of the busiest in Belgium. The fully car-free boulevard connects the Central Station with the historic city centre and counts hundreds of shops, from major international chains to exclusive boutiques. In addition, the Meir is known for its impressive historic architecture, with buildings such as the Paleis op de Meir (the former Napoleon Palace) and the Stadsfeestzaal shopping centre.
For wheelchair users the Meir is ideal. The street is completely level, wide, and paved with smooth stones that are easy to navigate. There are benches, public toilets in the major shopping centres, and adapted toilets at the Stadsfeestzaal and in the Central Station. Almost all major shops have step-free entrances. The tram stops on the Meir are equipped for accessibility. Disabled parking spaces can be found in the Meir, Opera, and Centraal Station car parks.
The Meir flows into the Huidevettersstraat, with even more shops and the fashion stores around the Komedieplaats. The Stadsfeestzaal is an atmospheric covered shopping centre with a dome, where you can shop in the dry during rainy weather. The Paleis op de Meir can also be visited, with a partially accessible permanent exhibition.
