Parc du Deister La Roche-en-Ardenne
Parc du Deister lies along the Ourthe in La Roche-en-Ardenne, one of the most picturesque villages in the Belgian Ardennes. The park forms the central green lung of the village and offers, from the bank of the Ourthe, a spectacular view of the ruin of the feudal castle perched high on its rocky spur. Visitors stroll under old ash and lime trees, with the sound of running water in the background.
The promenade along the Ourthe is paved and level; it runs for several hundred metres and connects to the village's central streets. The park has a few compacted side paths that are passable for wheelchairs in dry weather, with a companion advisable on the gently sloping sections. Picnic tables stand on level paved spots. The castle ruin itself is not wheelchair accessible because of the steep climb up; however, the view from the park alone is impressive enough. Adapted toilets are available in the Tourism Office on the Place du Marche.
Disabled parking spaces are at the Quai de l'Ourthe. La Roche has a few barrier-free terraces by the river and is an ideal starting point for an accessible Ardennes tour via Houffalize and Bastogne. Combine with an adapted restaurant visit or a short drive to Domaine des Olivettes, which offers adapted accommodation.
