Nieuwpoort Pier
The pier of Nieuwpoort is a recognisable spot on the Belgian coast. The wooden harbour head was renewed a few years ago and extends tens of metres out to sea, alongside the mouth of the IJzer. From the pier you have a magnificent view of the beach of Nieuwpoort-Bad, of fishing boats and yachts sailing in and out, and of the lighthouse park on the other side. Sea anglers come here to fish, families enjoy a detour during a beach walk.
Access to the pier is fully paved and barrier-free. The wooden deck of the pier has fine joints, making it easy to roll on even with narrow wheelchair wheels. The pier has a slight slope at the start; beyond that the route is horizontal. A chest-high railing runs the full length. An adapted public toilet is located in the nearby visitor pavilion of Nieuwpoort-Bad. Benches with armrests are spread along the route.
At the start of the pier there is a spacious paved car park with reserved spaces. The coast tram stop Nieuwpoort-Bad is also about a hundred metres away, via a fully paved and barrier-free pedestrian route. Wind can be a factor; check whether the pier is open during winter storms.
