Basilica of Saint-Hubert
The Basilica of Saint-Hubert, also known as the former abbey church of Saint-Hubert, is one of the finest Gothic buildings of the Ardennes. The church was built in the sixteenth century on the site of a much older monastery and preserves the relics of Saint Hubert, patron saint of hunters. The high nave, the stained glass windows and the Baroque choir stalls make a visit an impressive experience.
Accessibility is partial. The main entrance has several steps, but a ramp has been placed at a side entrance so that wheelchair users can reach the nave. Once inside, the central aisle is flat and wide, with room to take a place between the pews. There are no adapted toilets in the church itself, but adapted facilities are available in the nearby tourist office and in the hospitality venues on the Place du Marche.
In the Place de l'Abbaye in front of the basilica there are reserved PMR parking spaces on a flat paved square. A visit to the basilica combines well with the annual International Hunting Days, the procession of Saint Hubert in early November, and a walk along the other historic buildings of the old abbey site.
