St. Quintinus Cathedral Hasselt
St. Quintinus Cathedral stands on the Vismarkt right next to the Grote Markt of Hasselt and has been the seat of the diocese of Hasselt since 1967. The church dates from the eleventh to the sixteenth centuries, with Romanesque foundations, a late Gothic choir and an early Baroque interior. Highlights include the marble altar tombs, the splendid choir stalls and the statue of Virga Jesse, the patron image of Hasselt around which the renowned seven-yearly procession is built.
One of the side entrances is fitted with a ramp so wheelchair users can enter smoothly. The main entrance on Vismarkt has a step and is harder to access. The church floor is largely flat with even tiles, although there is some unevenness near older grave slabs and steps to side chapels. An accessible toilet can be found in dining venues on the Grote Markt or in the town hall. During opening hours the welcome staff offer assistance.
Accessible parking spaces are available on the Boulevard and in the underground Dusartplein car park. Hasselt station is fifteen minutes roll away via flat pavements. A combined visit with the Hasselt Fashion Museum, the Japanese Garden or the Hasselt City Library is feasible in an accessible city centre.
