Tienne aux Pauquys Tournai
Tienne aux Pauquys is a small but special nature reserve near Tournai, where Natagora manages a valuable patch of calcareous grassland. This kind of biotope is exceptional in Hainaut and harbours a rich flora including wild orchids, salad burnet and mountain savory. On sunny days numerous butterflies fly around, including rare species that depend on this specific open environment. The reserve is one of the least-known nature gems of the Tournai area and ideal for those wanting to avoid the crowds.
Accessibility is partial. The starting point and the first level stretch of the walk are navigable by a wheelchair with larger wheels on a semi-paved path. The reserve sits on a gentle slope and the paths become steeper and narrower higher up the terrain, so the full loop is usually not feasible for wheelchair users. For those staying briefly there is a fine viewpoint just past the entrance, reachable without major effort.
At the entrance is an unpaved car park with a few spaces. There is no public toilet on site, so a short stop in Tournai itself is recommended. Combine a nature visit with an accessible exploration of the old town centre of Tournai and the Cathedral of Our Lady for a varied half-day.
