Flax Museum Texture Kortrijk
Texture is the museum about flax, the Lys and linen in Kortrijk, housed in the former Linnen linen warehouse on Linnenstraat. The building, a restored industrial property from 1912, tells the story of the Golden River and the heyday of the Lys region as a world centre of flax and linen. Permanent displays show tools, samples and testimonies, while temporary exhibitions focus on design, fashion and contemporary textiles.
During the renovation, accessibility was given full attention. The main entrance is step-free, all floors are reached by a spacious lift and the exhibition halls have wide, flat floors. Touchscreens, display cases and information boards are placed at wheelchair height. An accessible toilet is provided on the ground floor and the entrance area offers ample manoeuvring space. Tactile elements are available for blind and visually impaired visitors.
The museum has its own accessible parking spaces in front of the door on Etienne Sabbelaan. Kortrijk station is about a ten-minute roll away via paved paths along the Lys. Texture combines well with an accessible walk on the redesigned Lys banks or a visit to the Beguinage of Kortrijk.
