Arboretum Kalmthout
Arboretum Kalmthout is one of the most renowned botanical gardens in Belgium, devoted since 1856 to cultivating and studying trees and shrubs from every continent. The arboretum of more than ten hectares preserves a unique collection of hamamelis, magnolia, maples and rare conifers. In every season the garden shows a different face: winter bloom, spring blossom, summer peak and fiery autumn foliage.
The main circuits through the arboretum are accessible to wheelchair users. The central paved loop around the large pond and the themed rose garden is flat and wide enough for comfortable use. The side paths in the rhododendron and hamamelis sections are semi-paved and can become softer after wet weather; in dry conditions they remain easy to navigate. Accessible toilets are provided at the reception and near the cafeteria terrace. The reception building is fully barrier-free with an adapted visitor desk.
The spacious car park at the entrance offers several reserved spaces. A wheelchair is available for loan at the ticket desk. The cafeteria with garden terrace is fully accessible, as is the shop. You can combine your visit with a walk through the adjacent, accessible Kalmthoutse Heide, where the paved paths around the De Vroente visitor centre are also suitable for wheelchair users.
