Soignes Forest Visitor Centre Hoeilaart
The Visitor Centre of the Soignes Forest, housed in the Groenendaal Pavilion in Hoeilaart, is the gateway to one of the finest beech forests in Europe. The interactive exhibition takes visitors through the history, ecology and management of this protected UNESCO World Heritage forest. Models, films and child-friendly activities make the centre suitable for young and old.
The pavilion has been thoroughly renovated with attention to universal accessibility. The entrance is at ground level, all exhibition spaces are wheelchair accessible, and an adapted toilet is available. Reserved PMR parking spaces are provided at the entrance to the centre on a flat paved car park. The staff can provide information about accessible walking loops in the Soignes Forest.
Several walking routes start from the visitor centre, including a flat path around the Groenendaal Ponds that is suitable for wheelchair users and families with strollers. A spacious resting area with hospitality services across the street makes the centre a pleasant starting point for half a day in the forest.
