Brouwerij Timmermans Itterbeek
Brouwerij Timmermans in Itterbeek, part of the municipality of Dilbeek, traces its roots to 1702 and is the oldest still-operating lambic brewery in the world. Located in the Pajottenland lambic region, Timmermans brews classics such as Oude Geuze, Kriek and Blanche Lambicus in line with the centuries-old tradition of spontaneous fermentation. Tours take visitors past the distinctive coolship, the wooden foeders and the fermentation cellars, ending with a tasting of these unique beers, only possible in the Zenne Valley.
Accessibility is partial due to the historic character of the brewery. The reception area, shop and ground-floor tasting room are flat and accessible. Parts of the tour, such as the coolship under the roof, are only reachable by stairs and are not wheelchair accessible. The main route on the ground floor with brewing installations and maturation barrels is, however, largely navigable. An accessible toilet is available in the visitor centre.
Parking is possible on site with spaces near the entrance. Itterbeek is a short distance from Brussels via the N8 or the R0 ring road. Tours are by reservation; when booking it is advisable to mention wheelchair use so the guide can arrange an adapted tour, with explanations and images of the non-accessible sections.
