C-mine
C-mine in Genk is an impressive cultural centre on the site of the former Winterslag coal mine. The listed mining buildings have been given new life as a venue for culture, creativity and tourism. You will find exhibitions, a cinema, a design centre, workshops and a theatre hall. The C-mine expedition takes visitors on an underground adventure through the former mine shafts. The plaza and buildings form a fascinating interplay between industrial heritage and contemporary architecture.
Accessibility at C-mine is good but has some limitations. The plaza is wheelchair accessible via a lift from Parking 1 that brings you to the plaza level. The inner courtyard is, however, covered with slate chips, which may be less comfortable for wheelchair users. The ascent of the pit tower is stairs only, but an alternative route is clearly signposted. For the C-mine expedition, a maximum of two wheelchair users per group is permitted, and it is recommended to contact the visitor centre in advance to reserve the lift.
Assistance dogs are welcome in the Energy Building. C-mine is a unique destination where the industrial past of Limburg is brought to life in a captivating way, and where most spaces have been made accessible to visitors with limited mobility.
