♿ Wheelchair accessible

The Groot Schietveld in Brasschaat is one of the largest contiguous heath and forest areas in the province of Antwerp. The landscape is particularly varied: purple heather blooming in late summer, sweeping pine forests, ponds and open grasslands create a rich biodiversity. The area is partly used as a military domain and is open to the public on specific days.

On the edges of the estate, paved and semi-paved paths have been laid out that are accessible for wheelchair users. The full walking loops through the heath, however, run on sandy tracks and are only partially suited to standard wheelchairs. An off-road or electric wheelchair is a recommended option. At the nature gateway on the north side, an adapted toilet is available.

Car parks with a few accessible spaces are provided at the main entrances. Check the opening days in advance, as the area is not always accessible during military exercises.
