Averbode Bos & Heide is an extensive nature domain of more than 600 hectares on the border of Flemish Brabant, Antwerp and Limburg. The area features an exceptionally varied landscape of open heath fields, fens, coniferous forests and drifting dunes. Averbode Abbey plays an important role in the history of the domain: for centuries the monks planted pines for timber production, which created the characteristic patchwork of landscapes. The area is managed by Natuurpunt in cooperation with the abbey and the province.

Accessibility at Averbode Bos & Heide has been greatly improved in recent years. From the reception building, a specifically wheelchair-friendly route of 2.1 km runs over a firm semi-paved surface, with several viewpoints and rest benches. The reception building itself is barrier-free and has an adapted toilet and a small cafeteria with a lowered counter. A viewpoint at the 'White Hills' has been adapted with a generous ramp and a wheelchair-friendly platform.

The spacious car park at the reception building has several PRM spaces. Averbode Bos & Heide is easily reached by car from the E313 motorway (Tessenderlo exit) and by bus via line 302 from Aarschot. The domain adjoins the grounds of Averbode Abbey, which is also partly accessible and makes a nice combination for a day trip.
