Hagedoornbos Play Wood Genk
The Hagedoornbos play wood in Genk is an adventurous natural play area where children can roam freely in nature. Instead of classic metal play equipment you will find huts made of branches, a water play spot with pumps, a tree-trunk obstacle course and a slide built into a natural hill. The philosophy behind the play wood is that children are challenged by their surroundings to build, discover and play together. The wood adjoins the vast Maten nature reserve, a Natura 2000 area.
Accessibility is partial. From the car park a semi-paved main path leads into the wood, easily passable for wheelchair users in dry weather. Some play elements, such as the large hill with the slide, can only be reached via an unpaved sandy path. The water play area and the central rest spot with benches are however easy to reach. At the entrance to the wood there is a partially accessible toilet. Sturdy footwear or an outdoor wheelchair is advisable.
Hagedoornbos is free of charge and open all year round. The car park is right by the entrance with accessible spaces. Genk has grown into a city with many green attractions, and the play wood combines well with a visit to Kattevennen or Thor Park just a few kilometres away.
