The Vrijbosroute is a popular cycling and walking corridor running along the old railway line 73 between Diksmuide and Ypres, right through the Westhoek. At several points along the route, rest and play stops have been laid out where families can take a break. Near Diksmuide lies one of the most pleasant play zones, right next to the main route. The playground has swings at different heights, a ground-level trampoline and an adventurous climbing course with wider step-up ramps for children with motor disabilities.

Accessibility is good. The Vrijbosroute itself is paved with asphalt over its full length, wide enough for two wheelchairs side by side and free of height differences, since the trace follows the gentle gradient of the old railway bed. The play area is directly adjacent to the cycle route and reachable via a level connection. The zone around the equipment has a rubber safety surface. A partially accessible toilet is located at the nearby rest stop with picnic tables.

The playground is free of charge and open all year round. At the main access point in Diksmuide there is a spacious car park with accessible spaces. The Vrijbosroute is an excellent base for a longer wheelchair tour: with a handbike or power wheelchair you can travel for kilometres without traffic on a level course. Combine with a visit to the Belfry of Diksmuide in the town centre.
