Tyne Cot Cemetery

Tyne Cot Cemetery in Zonnebeke is the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world. Nearly 12,000 soldiers who fell during the First World War are buried here, and the Tyne Cot Memorial bears the names of almost 35,000 additional missing soldiers. The cemetery sits on a slope that was once part of the battlefield of Passchendaele and presents an overwhelming and deeply moving picture of the immense human cost of the war. The visitors' centre tells the story behind the cemetery through informative panels and personal accounts.

Accessibility is well catered for. Every area of the cemetery and visitors' centre is accessible by wheelchair, with ramps featuring a gentle gradient. Wheelchair access to the cemetery is via an entrance at the rear, which is clearly signposted with green signs from the car park. Blue badge parking spaces are available along one side of the car park for disabled visitors. The visitors' centre has adapted toilet facilities.

While the main pathways are accessible, the grass areas of the cemetery itself may be more challenging to traverse by wheelchair in wet weather. There is also a wheelchair-accessible walking loop of 5.8 kilometres around Tyne Cot, following accessible paths.
