Walhain Nature Reserve
The nature reserve of Walhain lies in the rolling landscape of eastern Walloon Brabant, on the transition to the Hesbaye. The protected area combines meadows with hedgerows, small woodland sections and a stream valley where amphibians, dragonflies and meadow birds live. It is a beloved spot for local walkers and nature lovers seeking peace and open vistas.
Accessibility is partial. A short loop from the central parking square runs over a flat, semi-paved path and can be followed with a sporty wheelchair or rolling walker in dry conditions. The larger walking loops run partly over grass paths and country lanes that can be muddy after rain. Adapted toilets are not available in the reserve itself; the closest sanitary facilities are in the centre of Walhain.
The car park at the main entrance is free and offers space for a few cars, with room for PMR visitors. A visit combines well with a drink on a terrace in the village centre or with the nearby Walhain castle ruin, an atmospheric landmark along the walking routes.
