Nieuwpoort Sea Dyke
At more than two kilometres long, the sea dyke of Nieuwpoort-Bad is one of the quietest and most family-friendly promenades on the Belgian coast. It runs from the mouth of the Yser to the border with Oostduinkerke and offers beautiful views over the sea and the dune landscape. The dyke itself is fully paved and step-free, ideal for a quiet stroll or a roll in a wheelchair.
At various points along the sea dyke, Mobi-Mat paths lead deep into the beach so that wheelchair users can also enjoy the sand. In the summer months, free beach wheelchairs and Tiralo sea wheelchairs are available from the lifeguard post at Kardinaal Mercierplein and at Louisweg. Adapted toilets are available at the main beach groynes. Several beach bars and restaurants along the dyke are also step-free.
Reduced-mobility parking spaces are close to the main accesses, such as at the Albert I monument and Kardinaal Mercierplein. The Coastal Tram stops at several stops that are equipped for wheelchair users. Nieuwpoort is also an ideal starting point for an accessible walk around the IJzermonding nature area, where wooden boardwalks are fully accessible.
