Liège province combines, for wheelchair users, a world-class art museum (La Boverie, in partnership with the Louvre), the exceptional spa town of Spa with its step-free Thermes, the iconic Meuse RAVeL for handbike riders, and historic heritage in Stavelot, Verviers and Huy. Below are seven outings, spread geographically.
1. La Boverie Liège: Belgian-French museum
La Boverie is Liège's fine arts museum, in partnership with the Louvre Paris. Fully step-free — threshold-free entrance, lift to all floors. Parc de la Boverie sits on an island in the Meuse — an atmospheric stroll around the museum. Closed on Monday. Combine with our Liège city break pillar.
2. Saint Paul's Cathedral Liège: fully step-free
Saint Paul's Cathedral is fully step-free — level main entrance, completely flat interior, and the treasury is reachable by lift and adapted. The reliquary of Charles the Bold and the Lambertus crucifix are highlights. Multilingual audio guides. Place Cathédrale has been redesigned and is largely traffic-free.
3. Les Thermes de Spa: step-free wellness with pool hoist
Les Thermes de Spa is an ultra-modern wellness venue above the spa town of Spa. Fully step-free — adapted changing rooms with spacious showers, and a pool hoist to help wheelchair users into the thermal water. Accessible via a wheelchair-accessible cable car from the centre of Spa (unique in Belgium!). See our Spa city break pillar.
4. Modave Castle: Hercules ceiling + castle interior
Modave Castle is a 17th-century classicist castle high above the Hoyoux valley. Call ahead for a PRM visit — the guide will work out an adapted route. The Hercules stucco ceiling is the highlight and clearly visible from a wheelchair. Some rooms involve steps. 25 minutes from Liège via the E25.
5. Plopsa Coo: theme park + Waterfalls
Plopsa Coo (officially Plopsaland Ardennes) is a charming family park beside the iconic Coo Waterfalls. Reserve a wheelchair in advance via the website — ID card as deposit. With the European Disability Card, reduced rates apply. Priority wristbands for wheelchair users and visually impaired visitors — no certificate required.
6. Collégiale Notre-Dame Huy: Gothic by the Meuse
The Collégiale Notre-Dame Huy is a Gothic church on the Meuse, opposite the Citadelle de Huy. The main entrance has historic steps — use the side entrance with a gentle ramp. The nave is flat and spacious. The treasury, with narrower spaces, has limited access. The Meuse quayside is paved and level — combine with a riverside stroll.
7. Musée Brigade Piron Trois-Ponts: WWII heritage in the Ardennes
The Musée Brigade Piron is dedicated to the Belgian Brigade Piron in WWII. Exhibition spaces on the ground floor — step-free. The adjoining building is also accessible. Combine with the Coo Waterfalls (15 minutes) and Stavelot for a day of Ardennes heritage.
Bonus: Verviers Industry Museum (Aqualaine) + Meuse RAVeL
For industrial heritage: Centre Touristique de la Laine et de la Mode Verviers is the wool and fashion museum in a former textile factory. Audiovisual elements at wheelchair height. For handbike riders: Liège Meuse valley RAVeL — 20-30 km of level, paved paths along the Meuse, an ideal handbike route.
