Mechelsveld Mechelen
The Mechelsveld is a natural recreation area on the edge of Mechelen, laid out on a former farming plot and set up as a green zone for the adjoining residential districts. The area combines flower-rich grasslands, young woods, and open pond zones and forms an accessible green lung near the city centre.
The main paths through the Mechelsveld are paved and level, making it ideal for walkers, wheelchair users, and prams. At the entrances you will find parking spaces with reserved disabled parking spaces. Rest benches are set up every few hundred metres. Toilet facilities are limited at the nearby sports complex.
The area is free to enter and open all year round. It is suitable for a short, quiet walk of 2 to 4 kilometres, to be combined with a visit to the neighbouring Vrijbroekpark. Dogs are welcome on the lead. In spring and summer you will often see plenty of butterflies and birds in the small-scale nature.
