Parc du Mont Panisel Mons
Parc du Mont Panisel sits on the hill of the same name to the south-east of Mons and is a beloved recreation area for residents of Mons and the surrounding municipalities. The park combines old beech woods with open meadows and a number of historic First World War bunkers. From the highest points you can see across the Borinage and on clear days well beyond Mons itself.
The main paths from the upper car park are wide and partly paved, with a few gentle slopes that pose no problem for electric wheelchairs but make a companion welcome for manual wheelchair users. The side paths through the woods have a compacted dolomite surface and are reasonably passable in dry weather. Benches are placed at regular intervals. Adapted sanitary facilities are not on site; the nearest are in the centre of Mons.
Parking with a blue badge is possible at the Avenue du Champ de Bataille. A visit combines ideally with a tour of Mons and the Mons Memorial Museum, which covers the region's wartime history in depth. In the summer months, the city regularly organises accessible nature walks on Mont Panisel.
