The Walloon Ardennes have a strong gastronomic identity: Ardennes ham, trout from the mountain streams, Trappist beers (Orval, Rochefort, Chimay in the wider region), and classic French-influenced brasseries in Spa, Namur and Dinant. For wheelchair users, the restaurant scene is larger and better adapted than in the Flemish Ardennes.
In this guide: 12 accessible restaurant addresses spread across the region. This closes our Walloon Ardennes series — together with the main pillar, walking routes, RAVeL cycling routes and accommodation.

🏞️ Liège city (outside the strict Ardennes but nearby)
Liège city lies on the edge of the Ardennes and has the strongest urban restaurant scene in Wallonia. A few accessible addresses:
- Café Lequet Liège — legendary Liège café for boulet à la liégeoise (meatballs in Liège syrup sauce).
- La Forge Beaufays — grill restaurant on the Liège outskirts.
🍽️ Ardennes specialties — what to order
Ardennes ham: dried ham from the region — sweet, smoky character. On the menu at every good brasserie.
Trout: from local mountain streams. Prepared as "aux amandes" (with almonds) or "à la meunière" (pan-fried in butter).
Boulet à la liégeoise (meatballs in Liège syrup sauce): Liège meatballs in syrup sauce — a surprisingly sweet-savoury combination.
Chicory gratin: chicory in cheese — a Belgian classic, in the Ardennes sometimes wrapped with Ardennes ham.
Tarte al d'jote: potato tart from the province of Namur. A rare local specialty.
Trappist beers: Orval, Rochefort, Chimay — try during your visit. Each monastery is accessible to visit.
Practical restaurant tips for the Walloon Ardennes
Reserve in advance on sunny weekends. Ardennes terraces are busy in July–August and during the autumn colours peak (mid-October).
Ask by phone for a wheelchair table. Historic Ardennes brasseries often have a few "preferred" tables with extra manoeuvring space — reserve those specifically.
Summer terraces along rivers: many Ardennes brasseries have waterside terraces (Meuse, Ourthe, Amblève, Semois). Ask to sit inside with a window table if the terrace has thresholds.
During winter: many smaller B&B restaurants are closed from November to Easter. Call in advance for opening hours.
For gastronomic dinners: Spa and Namur have the most strong gastronomic addresses. Bastogne and Bouillon are more classic-brasserie oriented.
For picnics on the road: many provincial estates and lakes have accessible picnic areas. Combine with a local baker for Ardennes ham sandwiches.

In closing
The Walloon Ardennes restaurant scene is one of the richer gastronomic regions of Belgium — Trappist beers, Ardennes ham, trout and classic French-influenced brasseries. For wheelchair users, the accessible restaurant scale is larger than in the Flemish Ardennes — especially in Spa, Namur and Liège city.
Our recommendation: start with a Namur evening (Brasserie de la Confluence or L'Essentiel) — Namur combines accessible urban atmosphere with quality gastronomy and the Meuse as backdrop.
