Hazewinkel Rowing Course Willebroek
The Hazewinkel provincial recreation area in Willebroek is home to the best-known rowing course in Belgium. The straight, two-kilometre lake has been the regular training base of the national rowing teams since the 1980s and a regular venue for international competitions. Alongside rowing, there is room for kayak, paddleboard and triathlon. Around the rowing course is an extensive recreation area with green zones, a wood and a playground, making it a pleasant family visit, even for those not taking part in sport themselves.
Accessibility is good. The path along the rowing course is fully paved with asphalt over its full two kilometres and offers a level course for walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users. From the jetty you have a magnificent view of the rowers during training or competition. The main building with cafeteria, showers and changing rooms has accessible toilets and a step-free entrance. A wheelchair-accessible kayak boarding lift is available by appointment for those who want to take to the water themselves.
The car park is spacious and provides accessible spaces close to the main building. Hazewinkel is reached via the A12 between Brussels and Antwerp. The rowing course is free of charge for walkers, even on competition weekends, which makes a visit all the more exciting. Combine with a visit to nearby Fort Breendonk or the Duvel Moortgat Brewery.
